Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the overall management of the Bank and ensuring that good standards of governance permeate all of the Bank’s operations. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Adopting and overseeing the implementation of the Bank’s strategic objectives, risk strategy, corporate governance, and corporate values
  • Ensuring that adequate, effective, and independent controls are in place
  • Overseeing the system of internal risk control
  • Reporting related developments and discussing the internal risk management and control systems with the Audit Committee
  • Being involved through a number of Board Committees
  • Providing direction to the Senior Management

  • Mr. Mohamad Bashar El Zein

    Mr. Mohamad Bashar El Zein

    Mr. Mohamad El Zein has been the Chairman and the General Manager of BCN from mid-2013 till 2015, and from 2016 till present,as well as the Executive Vice President for Finance and Treasury of the Medgulf Group since 2006.
    In that time, he has overseen the continued growth of BCN and has established the Bank as a quality provider of personalized and tailored banking services. Prior to joining BCN, Mr. El Zein was the Senior Vice President of Evenflo Products Company in Dayton, Ohio from 1982 till 2011. Mr. El Zein attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York where he received his M.B.A. in International Finance in 1980.
  • Mr. Lutfi El Zein

    Mr. Lutfi El Zein

    With more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Lutfi El Zein is widely recognized as an expert in the insurance industry.
    He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Gulf Insurance Reinsurance Company (Medgulf) as well as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Addison Bradley and of MediVisa. He is also a member of the British Insurance Brokers Association, a member of the International American Insurance Association, and a member of the National Insurance Committee in Saudi Arabia. Mr. El Zein holds a B.S. degree in Economics from the Saint Joseph University in Beirut.
  • Sheikh Saleh Al Sagri

    Sheikh Saleh Al Sagri

    Sheikh Saleh Al Sagri is the Founder and the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Safar Co.
    He is a Saudi national with many years of experience and substantial investments in real estate and contracting in the K.S.A. Sheikh Saleh Al Sagri also holds several other positions: Director at Medgulf, Director at Al Azizia investment Company, Director at Deutsche Azizia Bank, Director at Kingdom Holding Co PSC., as well as CEO of Menhaj IT Company in Egypt and Vice Chairman of Al-Eqtisadiah TV Channel. He holds a B.B.A. degree from The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
  • Mr. Sami Haddad

    Mr. Sami Haddad

    Mr. Sami Haddad is a Lebanese economist and the former Minister of Economy and Trade.
    Prior to his appointment as Minister, he held various positions at the IFC (International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank Group), including MENA Director in Cairo. Mr. Haddad’s accomplished career and unrivaled expertise in economics led him to be appointed as the Minister of Economy and Trade of Lebanon from 2005 to 2008. From 2008 to 2014, Mr. Haddad was the General Manager of International Banking & Investment at Byblos Bank, before holding the position of Chairman and General Manager of BCN from 2015 to 2016. He is also a part-time lecturer at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Mr. Haddad holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Economics from AUB, and has completed all the required courses for a Ph.D. in Development Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA.
  • Ms. Leila Hammoud

    Ms. Leila Hammoud

    Ms. Leila Hammoud joined Grant Thornton in 1987 where she is currently a Senior Partner and the Head of Special Advisory Services for all Financial and Management Consulting Services.
    In addition to her experience in the public sector, in the tourism industry and with several NGOs, she led teams that provided audit services including assessments of audit risks for a number of banks in Lebanon. She also provided complete due diligence for banks for the purpose of mergers and/or acquisitions. Ms. Hammoud obtained her B.B.A. from the American University of Beirut in 1987 and her CPA from California in 1998, before receiving her license to practice in the State of New Hampshire in 2002.
  • Dr. Ibrahim Akoum

    Dr. Ibrahim Akoum

    Dr. Ibrahim Akoum has been the Dean as well as an Associate Professor at the College of Business Administration - Hariri Canadian University in Lebanon since 2009.
    His professional career encompasses more than 20 years of experience as a Consultant and Economic Advisor for the World Bank Group, the Ministry of Finance in Oman, the Arab Monetary Fund, the Dubai Council for Economic Affairs, the ESCWA as well as for the Union of Arab Banks. An accomplished academic, Dr. Akoum has published numerous research and publications in International Refereed Journals and given a large number of lectures both regionally and internationally. Dr. Akoum holds several degrees including a B.A. in Political Sciences from the Lebanese University, an M.B.A. in MIS from the University of Dallas, USA, and an M.A. in International Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas. In 1990, he received his Ph.D. degree in Public Policy and Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas.
  • Mr. Mohamad El Khatib

    Mr. Mohamad El Khatib

    Mr. Mohamad El Khatib is the current CEO of Medgulf Lebanon, a company he had previously served as General Manager from 2004 to 2016.
    Apart from being a member of the Board of Directors of BCN, he also sits on the board of Medgulf Lebanon, Addison Bradley Lebanon and UAE, Medivisa Jordan, Medgulf Alliance Bahrain, and Prime Health Egypt. Mr. El Khatib received his B.B.A. degree from the American University of Beirut in 1984.
  • Mr. Hassan Wazne

    Mr. Hassan Wazne

    Mr. Hassan Wazne has been the CEO of Sofibanque S.A. Congo since 2012.
    Prior to that, he spent more than a decade in Monrovia where he was a major shareholder and the General Manager of African Real Estate and Development, African Fisheries, and Wazni Trading Corporation. Mr. Wazne is a prominent businessman in the field of real estate development. He received his B.L. degree in 1991 and his M.L degree in 1992 from the UNSA (Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis) in France.
